WHAT IS DIVERSITY?
Diversity is the state of being different, and unique. Race, religion, class, culture etc… are some of the characteristics that make the individual unique and different. Anderson and Taylor in their book “Sociology understanding a diverse society” define diversity as “the differences in experience created by social factors such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, and religion of residence. Also it is defined as contributing to the rich texture of society through the diverse cultures and identities of different groups in society”. Thus diversity is the difference of social and cultural identities within those people who live together, in the same community, area, etc…
